FAQs for accountants

If your client meets our criteria, there is a fixed fee of £995+VAT, plus statutory disbursements which include the compulsory insolvency bond and the Gazette advertising, both of which are compulsory on any solvent liquidation. For most straightforward cases that comes to £1,600 – £1,900 all in, including VAT. The disbursements are statutory and broadly the same whichever insolvency practice does the work.

We don’t pay fees to introducers or commissions to accountants, IFAs or anyone else. That’s one of the things that helps keep the fee low and completely transparent for your client. The price your client sees is the real price, with no commission built into it. It keeps things clean at your end too as there’s no arrangement to disclose to your client. You’re simply recommending a service you trust.

Completing the referral form above typically captures everything we need at this stage. The fixed-fee assumes a simple, solvent case, so the main thing is to flag anything that isn’t standard such as an overdrawn director’s loan account, more than two shareholders, any corporate shareholders, assets or liabilities still sitting on the balance sheet, or an open HMRC enquiry.

There is very little for your client to do during the MVL process with us. They provide some basic details at the outset, visit a solicitor once to swear the Declaration of Solvency, then electronically sign the necessary documents. While formal closure takes longer due to HMRC clearance, it’s largely hands off from your client following the initial stage.

Usually, yes. What matters for your client’s capital gains treatment is the distribution date and not the formal closure of the company. The first distribution can be made very quickly once we’re instructed, so getting funds out before 5 April is generally achievable, provided we start with enough runway.

When we’re instructed to handle a solvent liquidation, that’s the beginning and end of our involvement with your client. Rest assured, the relationship with your client is yours, and will stay yours.

Our fixed-fee service is built for straightforward solvent cases that meet a specific set of criteria: the company’s debts already paid, the balance sheet down to just cash, no more than two shareholders and no corporate shareholders, a bank balance up to £999,999, and no open HMRC enquiry. If your client ticks those boxes, they get the fixed price. If they fall outside them, whether that is because the company isn’t solvent, there are assets still to deal with, or it’s simply more complex, it doesn’t mean we can’t help; it just means it sits outside this particular product. Tell us your client’s situation and we’ll talk the alternatives through with you.
